Restoring Real-Time IoT Data on Amazon EKS
When an event-processing issue affected the real-time IoT path running on Amazon EKS, Ficode was brought in to investigate and put the flow right. The engagement addressed moving building-system events through processing workloads to their intended consumers.
The project in context
A commercial building energy platform collects readings from connected systems and equipment. When an event-processing issue affected the real-time IoT path running on Amazon EKS, Ficode was brought in to investigate and put the flow right.
Incoming telemetry. Interrupted processing. Incomplete data flow.
The platform receives information from building systems including HVAC equipment, lighting, meters and building management networks. An issue within its event-processing path meant that telemetry was not reaching the expected downstream services as intended.
The challenge Before
Building systems
Telemetry generated by connected equipmentProcessing fault
Events stop or stall within the affected pathDownstream services
Expected data does not arrive as intendedWith Ficode Connected Approach
Trace the flow
Follow events from producers towards consumersResolve the fault
Correct the event-processing issue on EKSVerify delivery
Check events reach their expected destinationsTrace the events. Fix the fault. Confirm the flow.
Trace
Mapped the affected route from building-data producers through EKS event-processing workloads to the services expecting the data.
Locate
Examined where events stopped, stalled or failed to reach the next stage of the processing path.
Resolve
Made the engineering change needed to address the fault in the event-processing path.
Verify
Checked that events once again reached their intended destination and that the downstream processing flow resumed.

Downstream consumers receive processed informationCONNECTED OUTCOME
Events again reached their intended downstream services, supporting the platform’s energy monitoring, trends, comparisons and configured anomaly rules.
Restored data delivery for building energy analysis
Telemetry delivery restored
Ficode resolved the processing issue so building-system events could reach their intended consumers again.
Energy monitoring supported
The downstream services can receive the telemetry required for consumption monitoring and analysis.
Trends and comparisons supported
A functioning data path supplies the readings on which time-based views and comparisons depend.
Anomaly rules supported
Engineer-defined rules depend on incoming data to evaluate the conditions they are configured to detect.
Confirmed technology and implementation scope
Amazon EKS (runtime for event-processing workloads); building telemetry from connected systems; platform consumers for monitoring and analysis.
